Carl G. Evers Biography
Dr. Carl G. Evers who served first as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs from 1973-1978, then Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1978 until his death in 1992 at age 58.
Dr. Evers was a native of Lake Benton, MN. He completed his undergraduate education at Mankato State College and his medical education at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Once he made his way to Mississippi to pursue residency training in pathology, he never left. He married a nurse, Jan Magee Evers from Tylertown, MS. Carl and Jan have three children Karen, Julie and Gus, all of whom live in Jackson.
Dr. Evers was well known and well respected for his work in medical education within the state and across the nation. He was elected to the Mississippi State Medical Association Board of Trustees, Speaker of the House of Delegates and President of MSMA. He was elected by the American Medical Association to the Council on Medical Education in 1991.
He was described by Dr. Norman Nelson a previous Vice Chancellor and Dean of the School of Medicine in this way:
"He was a superb physician, an exceptional teacher and a nationally known medical educator. As assistant dean, then associate dean for academic affairs, he worked closely with every one of our classes, giving students counsel on course work, advice on specialty selection and being the kind of faculty friend upon whom the students could depend."
